The story of
Dianne Adrienne McEwan passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024 in Portland Oregon. She was born October 22, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Leona and Fleming “Al” Bair. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Dana Alvis, stepbrother Jason Gaskell, former husband George McEwan, daughter Anne McEwan, son-in-law Steve Lincoln, and her grandchildren and biggest fans Wyatt and Elsa Lincoln. In lieu of a funeral service, her immediate family plans to scatter her ashes in the Sierra Nevada mountains, a place she loved. Dianne had a big personality and a wide range of interests. When she embraced something, she did so wholeheartedly, inspiring those around her to do the same. Some of her biggest passions included: • Horse lover: Dianne's love for horses began in her youth. As a child, she would often stop to admire a horse stabled near her school route, dreaming of the day she would ride. From then on, she was horse crazy. She owned several horses and rode on trails all over California. Her passion for horses never waned. Even in her later years, her apartment walls were adorned with horse calendars, statues, and a cherished photograph of her riding her beloved Arabian horse, Misdarri, in the hills near Sun Valley, California. • Pepsi enthusiast: Though a discerning (some might say picky) eater, Dianne had a lifelong soft spot for Pepsi. She and her dear friend Elva were known to discreetly carry cans of Pepsi in their purses, so they’d never have to drink Coke. • Music fan: When it comes to music Dianne was the original superfan. In the late ‘60s, she was in Las Vegas for an Elvis concert, sitting in a bar and waiting for her friends to arrive, when who should walk by but Elvis himself flanked by a bodyguard. A few minutes later he walked back into the bar and Dianne sidled up and introduced herself. Several years later, after being turned away from a live Neil Diamond performance at a variety show on NBC, she sneaked into a side door and sweet-talked a security guard into letting her stand center stage. Did Neil notice the young lady in the miniskirt and reach down and kiss her hand? Of course he did. • Devoted Nana: Dianne was born and raised in California, but when her grandson Wyatt was born, she moved to Portland, Oregon, and never looked back. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She was a staple at the soccer field and school events, chatting up all the other parents. She was the fun grandma taking the kids to movies and the Spaghetti Factory and spoiling them rotten. In her later years, Dianne often expressed gratitude for all the positive things in her life: unforgettable experiences, loving family, good friends, and compassionate care. She will be missed.
