Sherri (Quick) Hanson-Kennedy
March 29, 1963 – October 12, 2026
Surrounded by friends and family, Sherri (Quick) Hanson-Kennedy, 63, died in Lincoln City, Oregon, on October 12, 2026, after living with ovarian cancer for two and a half years.
Sherri was born March 29, 1963, in Auburn, California, to Frederick Clarence Quick and Edith Lorraine (Pelliccia) Gardner. Her family moved to Oregon in 1968, and she grew up in the Albany-Corvallis area.
A 1981 graduate of Corvallis High School, Sherri excelled in academics and fast-pitch softball. Through softball, she formade friendships with teammates that endured throughout her life.
Four days after graduation, Sherri married, and a month later began her career at Hewlett-Packard's Computer Division in Corvallis. In 1984, she welcomed her son, Tyler Robert Hanson, whom she called the light of her life. Tyler's month in intensive care, followed by a divorce, a job change, and her parents' separation, made this one of the most difficult periods of her younger life. Those experiences helped shape the grit, determination, and perseverance she relied on in the years ahead.
In 1985, while working at HP's Medical Products Division, Sherri reconnected with former coworker Dick Kennedy. They married in 1987 at Yamhill Valley Vineyards in McMinnville and settled there to raise their blended family. They built their first home together near Michelbook Country Club, supported the Mayor's Charity Ball benefiting McMinnville Kids on the Block, and volunteered at the International Pinot Noir Celebration. Annual family trips to Whispering Woods near Mount Hood became a tradition. Sherri enjoyed celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, and holidays, both big and small.
At HP, Sherri advanced into marketing communications as an events coordinator, organizing the company's presence at national conferences, including the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, and helping coordinate the introduction of HP's PageWriter XL cardiograph. Her work took her around the country, with Orlando, San Diego, and Washington, D.C., among her favorite destinations.
When the HP McMinnville facility closed in 1997, the family moved to Vancouver, Washington, where they lived for 18 years. With Dick traveling extensively and Tyler departing for college, Sherri took on a part-time position at Coldwell Banker Commercial that grew into her second career. Her work expanded into commercial real estate development, including MAJ Development. As a project development manager, she helped develop properties for major national retailers and multitenant retail centers throughout the Portland-Vancouver area.
Sherri and Dick traveled extensively, returning often to Maui and seeking out tropical islands and sandy beaches. Bora Bora, Ireland, and the Caribbean were among her favorite trips, and she also enjoyed a trip to Paris with girlfriends. In retirement on the Oregon Coast, Sherri spent time walking the beach, gardening, and making memories with her grandgirls.
She created a lot-sized garden, where she and Dick hosted an annual neighborhood gathering they called Potluck in the Park.
Sherri is survived by her husband, Dick Kennedy of Lincoln City; her son, Tyler Hanson of Silverton; her stepdaughter, Katie Keim (Eric) of Tigard; and granddaughters Kennedy Keim, Pearl Hanson, and Lucy Hanson.
She is also survived by her mother, Edith "Edie" Gardner; brother, Allen Quick; sister-in-law, Linda Tatro; nieces Angela Tatro and Hillary Tatro-Morgan; great-niece Kira Tatro-Rueda; and nephews Ebon Tatro, Hunter Quick, and Tanner Quick. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred "Joe" Quick, in 2008.
Sherri enjoyed bringing friends, family, and coworkers together and celebrating life's occasions. In that spirit, her family is planning a Celebration of Life for spring, with details to be announced. In keeping with Sherri's love of tropical destinations and sandy beaches, guests will be encouraged to wear colorful tropical or coastal-casual attire.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
