On the 28th of August 2025, Sherri Swinden finally lost her final battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones as she slowly slipped away. Sherri was born to Ned and Althora Fairbanks on the 17th of June 1959. She is survived by her husband Gary, her son Riley, her step-daughters Nichole and Laura, siblings Sharla, Michael, Suzzane and Mark and grandchildren Alyssa and Miles. Sherri was also blessed with a loving extended family of Carolyn, Marty, Jayne, Sandi, Mike, Crissy, Tom, Lekha and Ray (and of course her furry kids, Madeline and Wilder). Sherri and Gary were happily married for over 43 years. She was a proud and patriotic military spouse and USAF civil servant. Sherri honorably and steadfastly served her country through unswerving support and kept the "home fires burning."
"I have a strong heart and a kind soul" and simple words like compassion and kindness epitomized the way Sherri lived and ultimately died. Sherri was curious and enthusiastic about so many things (animals, running, history, cooking, sewing, politics - just to name a few). She was passionate and determined to succeed, regardless of obstacles thrown in her way. For example, while being diagnosed several decades ago with Multiple Sclerosis, she never let that slow her down and "proved" it to the world with walls full of long-distance running medals. Sherri was a force to be reckoned with and full of life, strength, determination, courage and drive. She was a hero and inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Sherri always cared more about the people and animals around her than she did for herself. Even in the final days she put her loved ones and "furry kids" first and foremost. Her selflessness and positive spirit were timeless and will live on in her legacy. She made all of us try to be better and reach for greatness within ourselves and most of all, be kind to those around us - friends and strangers alike.
Sherri was a tough and courageous fighter and our tireless warrior. Now she's earned her reward and is resting in peace - watching over us as our warrior angel.
A celebration of her life will follow in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Human Society in her honor.
