The story of
Shelley Joyce Vickery was everybody’s Sunshine girl. She died on April 25, 2025 from complications of Interstitial Lung Disease as a result of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Even during those last days in the ICU, she shared her love and her beautiful smile with those blessed enough to consider themselves her nearest and dearest. Shelley is predeceased by her beloved Nana Ogilvie, father Stephen Joyce and brother Hunter, whom we pray were waiting for her the moment she took her final breath. She is survived by her mother Jan Rains; her partner & the love of her life, David Trimble; her son Conner Vickery, his wife, Taylor and their two beautiful children: Marley and Ripley; her daughter Cameron Vickery; her sister-in-law, Hunter’s widow, Dina; and the approximately 20 foster children whom she cared for throughout her life. Shelley knew the importance of having the unconditional love of a parent and as a result treasured all of her children and grandchildren, whether by blood or by love. She adored her family and wanted nothing more than to surrounded by them at the end. Shelley started her life in Dallas where she was a cheerleader at Woodrow Wilson High School. She moved to Florida and then onto Colorado, spreading joy wherever she went. Selfless and endlessly loving, Shelley devoted her life to caring for children and teenagers who were troubled, abused or forgotten, both as a counselor and head of department at several in-patient facilities for young people. Shelley didn’t know any way to love other than with her whole heart. She always gave people grace, and met them wherever they were, and at whatever stage they were in their lives. With her family, friends or even strangers, she loved unconditionally — and held a space for us to become better people. With Shelley’s love and compassion, people usually did exactly that…becoming the best versions of themselves. By far, Shelley’s greatest gift was her ability to love. No matter who she was with, she made them feel like they were the most special person in the world for the time they were together. We were so lucky. We were all so blessed to know her…And to love her. We don’t know why she was taken so early. Maybe God needed another angel up there to help wrangle teenagers, who knows. There will be a service in Dallas at a future date, and details on that will be forthcoming. We miss you, Shelley…But we will love you forever.
