The story of
Sally Jean Rase, aged 81, passed away on August 30th, 2025, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born August 22, 1944, in Bethany, OK to Helen and Harold Wall. Sally grew up in several Colorado mountain towns with her parents and 3 sisters, JoAnne, Helen and Beverly. She graduated from Salida High School, class of 1962. Following graduation, she married Jerry Wood and had 3 children, Ginger, Chad and Robyn. The family moved to New Zealand and enjoyed many years living abroad making many special friends and memories. Sally loved the scenery, the people and the culture in New Zealand. While there, she became very active in the church and the church music program. Sally always had a great love of music. She was a singer and played the guitar and saxophone. She was a youth music leader and sang and played in the music program. She was also part of a music quartet that performed at various functions. Sally worshipped and celebrated her life with music. Music brought her joy, and she loved to share that with the people around her, whether she was singing in church or just sitting on the porch having sing-alongs with her family. Once back in the US, Sally remarried Gene Rase, and they moved to Ohio where she enjoyed 5 years there getting to know her 6 stepchildren Brad, Jeff, Tamra, Tonya, Krista and Kim and the rest of Gene’s family. But their love for the mountains brought them back to Colorado in 1995, and they retired to Canon City, CO. Sally and Gene enjoyed 35 years of marriage on July 28, 2025. Sally loved sewing, knitting, and baking. She worked at Joannes Fabrics for several years and this allowed her to be around one of her passions. Some of her favorite time was spent in her sewing room listening to music, either sewing or knitting for her grandchildren or various charities like the Abundant Life Crisis Pregnancy Center in Canon City. She also worked at the Royal Gorge Bridge as “The Fudge Lady” making fudge for the gift shop. Sally brought so much joy and positivity to all the lives she touched. She always found light and humor in things, and found blessings in each day, despite hard times. The love she had for her family and friends was evident in the way she lit up a room when she entered, through the thoughtful gifts she always had to give “just because”, the baking lessons she gave using her old cookie cookbook, with the candy and small toys she had in “the candy drawer’ for her grandkids and the sound of her humming to Doris Day while she sewed or baked. Sally is survived by her husband, Gene Rase, her 3 children and 6 stepchildren, 3 sisters and many grand and great grandchildren. Her Legacy of kindness, generosity and love will continue to flourish in the hearts of all that knew her. A Memorial Service with be held on 11/7/25 at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow at the River City Vineyard Church, 245 S Raynolds Ave, Canon City, CO 81212. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Compassion International, The Abundant Life Crisis Pregnancy Center, Canon City, CO or Loaves and Fishes, Canon City, CO
