November 23, 1924 – June 14, 2025
Ruth Kelsey, a longtime resident of New Buffalo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was 100 years old.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 23, 1924, to Frank and Mary Kaspar, both now deceased, Ruth lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, curiosity, and deep devotion to family. During World War II, she proudly served her country working in the payroll department of the U.S. Treasury. Following the war, Ruth married Paul Kelsey, with whom she shared a joyful marriage until his passing. Together, they made their home in New Buffalo, Michigan, where they raised their two children and became part of a close-knit community.
Ruth also had a career in journalism, working as a correspondent for several regional newspapers including the News Dispatch, the South Bend Tribune, and the Herald Palladium. Her writing reflected her keen interest in people and the world around her.
An avid traveler, Ruth and Paul explored the globe together, visiting far-flung destinations such as Japan, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, and South America. These experiences enriched their lives and broadened their understanding of the world.
In her later years, Ruth found joy in simpler pleasures—tuning into the cooking channel, playing bingo, and joining in the many activities offered at the Gardens of Scottsdale
Ruth is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter, Marla Kelsey, of Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of curiosity, kindness, and resilience lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
A private memorial will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Ruth’s memory.
