The story of
February 27, 1952 – March 26, 2026 Roy D. Jackson, 74, took his last breath on this earth on March 26, 2026, at 4:33 PM. He passed away surrounded by his daughter, sisters, grandchildren, and family members who remained committed to his comfort and well-being. Roy was born on February 27, 1952, in Rapid City, South Dakota. He eventually made his home in Fairplay, Colorado. Over the past 40 years, Roy built his life and home there alongside his wife, Vicky, until her passing in 2009. He loved living life as a “mountain man,” whether he was sharing wildlife photos from his property or entertaining visitors. Although he loved the seclusion, he always welcomed new adventures with friends. His welcome sign read: “Friends welcome, family by appointment.” Roy spent his life taking care of others. Even as a young man, he stepped into a role to make sure his younger brother and sisters were fed and taken care of. That was just who he was. He started working at Coors in 1972 and worked hard until he was able to retire at the age of 55 — something most people only dream of. His life was full — Harley-Davidson, tattoos, golf, bowling, pool, Coors, firefighting, and more. Roy valued his right to bear arms, Amazon deliveries, Fox News, and of course MAGA. He was also a savior to many by taking in animals whenever family or friends needed help, giving several pets a safe home and the best years of their lives. About a month ago, Roy was asked if everything he had done in life that brought him to this moment was worth it. He said, “Yes, I’ve had a good life.” If you were lucky enough to know Roy, you loved him. He was kind, funny, compassionate, stubborn, witty, smart — and the list truly goes on and on. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Logan D. Jackson; his mother, Willa Dean Pullins; his brother, Don Jackson; and his spouse, Vicky L. Jackson. He is survived by his daughter, Jacy Jackson; grandchildren Sydney Brock, Dani and Jaden Philp; stepsons Brent and Jason Wildenstein; grandsons Damion, Tyler, and Elias; his sister Jan Jones and her daughters Nicki and Jamie; his sister Lyn Latka and her sons Gregory and Jeffrey; his brother Cory Jackson and his children Kellyn and Kabren; and his brother Cody Jackson and his son Case, along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. Roy’s Last Ride will be held on April 18 at 3:00 PM at the Indian Mountain Community Center. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roy’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the South Park Historical Society. Roy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him. I love you, Dad.
