In Loving Memory of Ronald Lee Cooley
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ronald Lee Cooley on Friday evening, at the VA in Seattle. His death was sudden but peaceful, and he was surrounded by family at the end.
Ronald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and coach. He was born in Denver, CO, to Burt and Doris Cooley, one of four children. He graduated from Redmond High School in 1967, the same year he married his loving wife, Tove Tverdal.
As an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, Ronald served with distinction in both the Vietnam War and the Secret War in Laos as a spotter for an air traffic control unit. After the war, he completed his military service at Langley Air Force Base.
Ron and Tove raised their sons, Michael and Burton, on Seattle's Eastside, where his tireless dedication to youth sports made a lasting impact. Ronald served as a coach for Basketball, Football, and Baseball at the Bellevue Boys & Girls Club, a role that endeared him to many and shaped the lives of countless young athletes. His passion for sports and commitment to the community were unmatched.
For decades, Ronald, affectionately known as "Ron from Renton," was a regular and beloved member of the rogues' gallery of characters on John Clayton’s Seattle Sports Talk Radio shows, contributing to the local sports culture and bringing joy to listeners.
Ronald’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and dedication.
