The story of
It is with great sadness to announce the death of Ronald Charles Satchell. He passed peacefully on June 22, 2026 with his wife, Lucille, son Robert and his wife, Melissa, and grandson, Matthew, at his side. Ron was born in Los Angeles, CA to Charles and Dorothy Satchell in 1938. Ron joined the Navy in 1957 and served his active duty onboard the USS Buckley as a Fire Control Officer Second Class. He served until 1961 and then joined the Reserves for two additional years. Though he didn’t share many stories of his Navy days, he did disclose his joy of seeing the marine life during his travels. Following his honorable discharge, he joined IBM in the early days of the computer era as a field engineer. At home, his tech prowess was put to work ensuring his children had the newest game systems and was the hippest place to hang out. He retired from IBM after dedicating 30 years and then went to work for Kaiser Permanente for an additional 17 years. Throughout his career, he delighted in tinkering and was an expert problem solver. He met his wife Lucille while on leave from the Navy when she was still in high school. Their love was a slow burn. Given time, it developed into a beautiful relationship during which they built a great life together. They married in 1960 and settled in Pasadena. Ron was a loving and devoted husband of 66 years and, together, they raised four children (Ronnie, Lisa, Robert and Christina), fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Ron and Lucy enjoyed traveling and touring the US in their motorhome. He adored camping with his family. He treasured being on the water, especially boating and water skiing. Ron passed down his love of playing cards, Mexican Train Dominoes, and Rummikub to his family. Making people laugh was essential. He loved a loud house, and tended to be a big goof, especially around the grandkids. From sucking Jello through his teeth, to showing up as “Rondo” in pictures, Ron was someone who instigated most of the tomfoolery in the family, often citing his “old” age as a way to get out of things if he ever got caught. He will be remembered by their children as a man who reveled in novel decorations and providing a good scare every Halloween; and by his grandchildren, as someone who was a child at heart, endlessly supportive, and a listening ear. Above all else, Ron was a man defined by his devotion to his family. As a husband, father, uncle and grandfather, his love was unconditional, and his quick wit was a constant source of joy. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter that will never be forgotten. Ron’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 1, 2026 from 3-6 pm at Robert and Melissa’s House. Address given upon request.
