The story of
Richard A. Cason, affectionately known as Richie, was born to the late George Cason and Inez Gray, on July 22, 1941, in Paterson, New Jersey. During childhood Richie was a member of Second Baptist Church. He attended Public School #6 and Paterson Tech. After high school he served in the United States Marine Corps. After receiving an honorable discharge, he resided in Washington, DC. Richie was blessed to have a loving mother who adored him to no end. She had an unconditional love for him which only allowed her to see the good in him. He was blessed to have a devoted mother in his corner who believed in him so deeply. Richie, who was a bit of a prankster, could often find a light side to any situation. It was a rare occasion to be in his presence when he did not have a smile on his face or joy in his voice. Often laughing at his own humor, it would become difficult not to laugh with him. His sense of humor and infectious laugh will be deeply missed by his sister Valarie Thurman and cousin Lenora Manderville. Richie was a diehard football fan. His favorite team was the Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Washington Redskins. On Sundays during football season, Richie could be found in front of the TV cheering (sometimes fussing) and hoping for a victory. Richie was the type who always wanted to know how things worked. This curiosity kept him busy for hours at a time taking apart different devices and putting them back together, sometimes successfully. Richie was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed books by Zecharia Sitchin. He often wondered about the ancient history of mankind. It was amazing that Richie recently moved from Washington to Phoenix Arizona. (DC residents missed seeing Richie zooming by in his electric wheelchair which he handled like a pro.) He spent the last few months of his life in a beautiful environment. His last days were spent in a peaceful warm, meaning hot, dry climate. It seems he was meant to have this experience if only for a short time. In Arizona he spent time with his dear friend Genevieve Finjap, her husband Charles and their extended family. Richie was welcomed into their family and the children affectionately call him grandpa. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory one sister Valarie Thurman, and one beloved cousin Lenora Manderville, one dear childhood best friend Howard Fulcher and one adopted family Genevie Finjap, Charles Ogu, Mardochee Ogu, Shamar Ogu and Maresha Ogu. They say we do not leave this earth until we have completed our mission. It is time for Richie to rest now. We will see him again someday on the other side of the veil. A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a later time.
