Early in the morning of Wednesday, 08th July 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Richard "RainBear" Porto, aged 62 years, 11 months, and 7 days, left this Earth due to complications related to cancer. He was born to Molly diNono on 31st July 1963 in New York City, at 7:10 a.m., and passed away in Longmont, Colorado.
Richard was raised by his mother alone in New York City. In the 1980s he worked for WPLJ and Sumitomo Bank, and it was during this time that he met the love of his life, William. The two became a couple on December 3, 1987, and were legally married on that same date in 2024 — sharing almost 39 years together.
Richard carried the name "RainBear," a name gifted to him through a follower of the Lakota traditions, and it became a part of who he was to those who knew and loved him. He had a deep love for classic rock and disco, and cared passionately about LGBTQ+ rights. Those who knew him remember him for many things, but perhaps most of all — as one friend put it — for giving "great hugs."
Richard was predeceased by his oldest sister, who lost her own battle with cancer on August 1, 2023.
He is survived by his husband, William Raymond Halstead, of Denver, Colorado, and his sister, Ann Porto, of Rhode Island.
