The story of
Richard Alan Walenceus, 67, of Auburn, WA passed peacefully at home on May 9, 2026, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Richard was born February 27, 1959 in Ames, Iowa. His family moved to Auburn in 1962 when his father began a career with Boeing. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1977 and completed a welding program at Green River Community College in 1982. Richard was never without work. His longest tenure was as a welder/fabricator at Flow International from 1994–2020, later working as a Tooling Technician at Milgard until his passing. He married Christine Riley on August 21, 1999, and together they shared many adventures and cherished memories with friends and family. Richard loved the great outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and riding his Honda ATC250R in Eastern Washington. He also enjoyed biking, hiking, golfing, fishing, motorcycle riding, skiing, and traveling throughout Mexico, Central America, and South America. Richard had a dry sense of humor and a witty comment for every occasion. He will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity and the many lifelong friendships he made. We rejoice in knowing Richard is now experiencing the beauty and perfection that is Heaven. A memorial service was held on May 23, 2026, at his home, where family and friends gathered to share stories of his life and stroll through the beautiful gardens he lovingly created alongside his wife, Christine — a peaceful retreat they shared together. Richard was predeceased by his parents, John and Donna Walenceus of Auburn. He is survived by his wife Christine; brothers, Michael (Karen) of Bonney Lake and Peter (Mindy) of Sumner; sister Jennifer (Darren Thomas) of Auburn; nieces Hayley (Calen Mornden) of Arlington and Elly Walenceus of Auburn; brothers-in-law, Michael Riley (Mia Hotchkins) of Beaverton, OR and Danny Riley of Salem, VA.
