The story of
Raul Velasquez, 87, passed away on September 14, 2023, at The Gardens of Sun City, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Camarillo, California on October 9, 1935, at home. He was the son of Joseph and Carmen Velasquez and was the oldest of five boys. He attended Oxnard High School and Ventura Jr. College and was in the Marine Corps and the Army. He also attended Hollywood Barber College and while attending The Braille Institute for the Blind, he became a Massage Therapist. His main line of work was as a Psychiatric Technician for Camarillo State Hospital, Eldora Boys Training School, and Fairview Developmental Center. His line of work clearly shows what a kind, passionate, and caring person he was. His zest for living life to the fullest was obvious to all who knew him. He shared his love for the beaches from the California coast to the Mediterranean Sea with family and friends any chance he could get. Camping trips from Yosemite to Yellowstone were remembered with fondness by his children. He enjoyed watching sports with a special fondness for the Arizona Cardinals. He loved everything about Disneyland. His love of music was evident his entire life and passed this on to his family. His favorite songs were Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino and Hotel California by the Eagles. Traveling all over the world with his wife via cruise ships both internationally and domestic, was his passion, totaling forty-two trips. He was absolutely the best storyteller. He could share all his memorable moments with those who listened, from the time he was a young boy up until the last days of this life’s journey. Raul will be remembered by his family and friends for his beautiful soul, wonderful smile, and his gracious love for all who came into his pathway of life.Raul is survived by his wife Virginia who they united on 2-02-2002 at 2 p.m., a day they always cherish. His children Vicki (Rich), Valerie (Jorge), Ron (Jackie), Robert and Stephanie (Tim). Also, his brothers, Tom, Rudy and Sal and many loved ones. He was an amazing Grandfather and friend to Monique, Brad, Alexx, Clayton, Savannah, Devvin, Paris, Roman and Astazzia. Great Grandchildren, Beverly-Madison, and Robbie. Raul was predeceased by his mother, Carmen, father Joseph, brother Joey and Great Granddaughter Miranda. Also, many other loved ones. In lieu of a funeral service, a Celebration of Life will be held later, and a tree is being planted in the Sequoia National Forest.
