Patricia Ann Gilbert Sherwood (Pat)
Born January 7, 1938; died November 17, 2025 (87 years old)
Pat was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the daughter of Benjamin and Martha Nessle Gilbert, and the youngest of seven children. The family lived in Maplewood, New Jersey. Pat and all of her siblings graduated from Columbia High School. After high school, Pat completed a degree at Lasell Junior College (now Lasell University). She continued academics later in life and received an AA degree in architecture at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California. Pat loved learning and was proud of her education.
Pat was an accomplished artist and designer. She was named Director of Design at Design Innovations in Palm Desert, a post she held for 10 years, after which she struck out on her own and started a successful business, PGS Design. In 1989, Pat was awarded ¨Room of The Year Design¨ by ISID (International Society of Interior Designers) for the complete interior she did at The Terraces of The Vintage Club, in Indian Wells, California. Along with her design work, Pat achieved much acclaim for her large canvas abstract paintings which hang in many homes and country clubs throughout the Palm Desert communities.
In 1972, Pat married Gene Sherwood, a second marriage for both of them. Gene passed away in 2018. Their marriage began in Clarkston, Michigan where they designed and built two homes, the first of which used reclaimed barn timbers to capture the feel of a 19th-century barn. The barn was featured in a special Detroit Free Press Sunday section.
Pat had four children with her first husband: Rick June, of Portland, Oregon (Laura June), Robin June, of Atlanta, Georgia (Lynda Alison), Christa June, of Seattle, Washington (Wolfe Maykut), and Gil June, of Atlanta, Georgia, who predeceased her in 2019. Pat had seven grandchildren: Sophia Nicole June; Zachary Gene Ward (Rachel Ward); Christopher De Marco June; Emma Noelle Ward; and Summer Lee June (Daniel Jimenez), McAllister June, and Sophie Christa June. Pat had two great grandchildren, Camilla and Rafael Jimenez.
Pat had a keen sense of humor, keeping friends in laughter with her quick, ingenious wit. Her positive attitude was admired by friends and family along with her natural gifts of cooking, baking, and sewing. The family’s treasure was Pat’s Ice Box Cake which she learned from her mother and proceeded to teach her granddaughters, who delighted in baking with their grandma. A wonderful grandmother, Pat frequently sewed curtains, bedspreads, pillow cases, and even clothing for her grandkids; all in matching, expertly designed colors and patterns.
Pat passed away peacefully in Seattle, Washington. A celebration of her life was held with family in Troncones, Mexico, her ashes will be scattered in the Puget Sound as per her wishes and a second celebration of life will be held in Seattle. Farewell Pat/Mom/Grandma/Amama. Your family misses you and will never forget you. In her own words, which her family repeats often, she considered her life to be “absolutely fabulous.”
