The story of
Mark Manion, 83, lived a life resembling a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book. On July 10, he turned the final page. Part 1 of Mark’s story began in Luverne, Minnesota, in 1942, where he was lucky to be born to loving parents, Nor and Pat Manion. After a fun-filled childhood, we quickly flip through the pages of his legendary teenage years. In the next chapter, Mark married his high school sweetheart, Jean, his first wife, and they became parents to two children, Mark and Kelly. During this time he followed in his father’s footsteps and owned two Ben Franklin stores located in Montana. His affection for the state grew and he went on to own a successful restaurant in Helena, appropriately named “Manion’s.” Taking a plot twist in his story, Mark remarried, and he and Priscilla became parents to their daughter McKenna. He discovered in his next adventure that he was a natural at managing a series of country clubs, first in Helena, followed by Ranier C.C. in Seattle, and two beautiful clubs in California, Rancho Santa Fe and San Luis Obispo. While in California, he met and married his beloved wife, Jane. In Part 2 of the story, Mark’s life came full circle and he and Jane returned to his roots in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, where he accepted his most important job of all, lovingly caring for his aging father. After they both provided several happy years for Nor in his last years, Mark’s story became a tragedy with the too-soon death of his beloved Jane to cancer. Turning the page again, Mark moved to the Oregon coast where he found peace in the beautiful surroundings of his new home in Depoe Bay. During the twists and turns of the plot that is Mark’s life story, he lived and loved fiercely. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Jack, first wife Jean, and lastly wife Jane. In the Epilogue, Mark leaves not only his memory, but his many tales to be further exaggerated and embellished. Continuing those stories will be his son Mark Manion (Jennifer) of Scottsdale, AZ, Kelly Manion of Scottsdale, McKenna Kyriss (Brandon) of Portland, OR, sisters Sue Murray of Oceanside, CA, and Mary Campbell (John) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Very dear to Mark’s heart are two grandchildren, Aidan and Breony Kyriss who always made him smile. It was Mark’s desire to be cremated and to have his ashes scattered during a family memorial. The family would like to thank the staff at HOLI Senior Living in Hillsboro, OR, for their patience and kindness in Mark’s final chapter.
