The story of
Michael Thomas Tamiyasu passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2024 at Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs, CA. Michael was born on April 9, 1950, in Portland, Oregon. His family moved when he was nine years old to Huntington Beach, CA, and he graduated from Marina High School in Huntington Beach in 1968. Michael was an all-around sports enthusiast and participating sportsman. He was the starting quarterback at Marina High; where he still holds records/stats that have not been exceeded to date. Michael received a full football scholarship to Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon where he attended his freshman year, before moving back to California where he attended UC San Louis Obispo. After graduating college, Michael joined the Huntington Beach Fire Department in 1971; moving through the ranks, he spent many years as a firefighter, several years in HB Fire Prevention, and then returned to the station as Captain. He was very proud to be part of such an amazing group of dedicated first responders. Michael, most often referred to as “Coach”, led HB City Softball League and the Firefighters Softball League for many years with many victories. He gained much respect for his drive and determination in all aspects of life to do the best he could at whatever endeavor he took on. Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Tamiyasu, and his father, Mikio Tamiyasu. Michael touched many hearts and souls throughout his walk of life and will be dearly missed. A celebration of Life will be held in his honor in Huntington Beach, CA April 2024; an exact date to be announced soon.
