NELSON, Maxine Ann, age 79, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away in the morning hours of Saturday, 5 July.
Maxine was born on December 3, 1945 near Denver, Colorado to parents Gottfried William and Ella Catherine Mueller. Maxine had four brothers, Donald, Dennis, Dale and Delbert along with five sisters, Marge, Maryln, Marcie, Millie and Marline. Maxine graduated from Lutheran High School in {insert year}, and she worked briefly for Mountain Bell before meeting her husband, Thomas R. Nelson, Sr., and marrying in November of 1966.
Maxine and Thomas started their family together with the birth of their son, Thomas Junior, in 1967, and 5 years later celebrated the arrival of their daughter, Kelley, in 1972. They lived for many years in Denver, Colorado, before briefly living in Grand Island, Nebraska, and then for nearly two decades in Springfield, Missouri, where they saw the graduation from college of both of their children. Maxine and Thomas then moved to Edmund, Oklahoma, and together briefly ran a golf sporting goods store together. In 2000 the couple relocated to Las Vegas, where Maxine lived until she died.
Maxine was an avid reader, to the point where she had index cards to keep track of all the books she read, spanning many genres. She had also worked numerous jobs in sales and even as a casino card dealer during her life. She was a lover of animals, especially dogs, having owned and loved four Pekignese, one Lhasa Apso, one Pug, one Great Dane, and one lovable mutt named Pogy over the course of her adult life.
Maxine's last days were spent battling Alzheimer's and dementia—a battle she fought vigorously, valiantly, and with dignity. Her final hours saw her husband faithfully by her side seeking to reassure her of their chance to meet again in the next lifetime.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, and all of her siblings except Maryln, Marcie, Marline and Delbert. She is also survived by her son Thomas and his wife, Lara, and their children Alex and Audrey, as well as by her daughter Kelley, and Kelley's children Madison and Logan.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to continue research and put an end to Alzheimer's is graciously requested to honor Maxine's memory.
