The story of
Matthew (Matt) Marple, age 52, passed away on November 26, 2025, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, curiosity, big laughs, and the kind of friendship people remember for a lifetime. Born and raised in the Lansing/Charlotte, Michigan area, Matt graduated from Charlotte High School in 1991. At 18, he began working full-time at Capitol City Electric to learn the trade. He excelled quickly, earning an apprenticeship, a Journeyman’s license, and his Master Electrician License all within a year. Soon after, he went into business for himself. Matt always dreamed of moving out west and starting a new life. At 19 in a beat-up old Ford Bronco and $800 in his pocket, Matt and his stepbrother, Brian, set out for Arizona along with another friend. After stopping in Colorado, the boys decided to stay. Matt moved to the Vail Valley 33 years ago, planting roots in the mountain community he would come to call home. For the first couple of years, both Matt and Brian worked for an established electrical company. Then Matt opened his own business, Current Electric, a traditional electrical contracting company charged with wiring new homes in Eagle Ranch. By 2009, Matt changed his focus to home automation and home theater. He took classes at night to learn everything he could about the field. After earning several certifications, he opened Paramount Audio Visual, blending his love of sound with electronics and technology. Matt had several hobbies, including brewing craft beer in his garage. At the urging of friends, he began entering, and winning, competitions. These award-winning recipes became the foundation of 7 Hermits Brewery in Eagle and eventually a second location in Vail. Matt poured his heart and soul into creating a true community centerpiece. Matt’s impact on the Eagle Valley community is immeasurable. He hosted countless fundraisers at 7 Hermits, stepping up for anyone in need. Giving back was deeply important to him. He also loved sharing what he loved, from live music to delicious meals. Even as a famously busy man, he always found time for others. If you needed help, he would show up, tools in hand, a smile on his face, and a cooler of cold refreshments. As a young boy of seven, Matt was introduced to hockey. He played for ten years with the last few years spent on a travel team. As an adult he enjoyed playing hockey with friends. Matt also enjoyed four-wheeling, camping, and snowboarding with his kids. He was always drawn to the water, so Lake Powell became his favorite destination for boating and spending time with friends. Matthew embraced life fully, traveling whenever possible with his partner, Jennifer, and he had hoped for many more adventures when he was unexpectedly diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Even during his brief, difficult journey with cancer, Matt’s spirit never wavered. Just a day or two before Matt passed away, he was enjoying watching videos of live music performances and tinkering with his electronic devices to control the window blinds and TV in his hospital room. Matt is survived by those who loved him deeply, including his long-time love, Jennifer Batts; his mother, Elizabeth Arntson; his children Gage and Hailey; his stepsiblings and extended family; and a huge circle of friends who felt like family. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Robert (Bob) Dale Marple, and by his stepfather, Gregory Lee Arntson, whom Matt also called Dad. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held next year. In honor of Matt, please consider supporting Matt’s GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/47c989c4d or simply do something generous for someone else because that is exactly what Matt would have done. What a gift his life was.
