The story of
Mary Josephine Stewart passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 88. Born in Bird Island, Minnesota, to Joseph and Elizabeth Murray, she moved to Oregon as a child and remained there for the rest of her life. Mary enjoyed a long career with GTE before retiring to focus on the things she loved most: traveling, gardening - growing gorgeous flowers and enormous blueberries - and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, but also had a passion for grisly murder mysteries. Mary appreciated delicious food and was a wonderful cook who loved to host family events. She was hilarious, generous, and feisty, and her family will miss her terribly. She is lovingly remembered by her children Amy (Leonard), Blaine (Bill), and Catherine (Brent); grandchildren Jennie, Eric, Sarah, Joe, and Claire; five great-grandchildren; and extended family including her stepson, step-grandchildren, and sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Canoso, and stepson, Sargon Canoso. Mary’s life will be celebrated privately by her family. To honor her memory, pet a cute dog, take a walk in a beautiful garden, or enjoy a cup of coffee with a gooey caramel roll. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oregon Humane Society would be appreciated.
