The story of
Mary Jane Douglas, aged 77, passed away on April 6, 2026, in Los Angeles, CA. Born on November 19, 1948, Mary was known for her unwavering devotion as a mother, sister, and a steadfast soldier in the army of the Lord. Mary's early education was at Carver Elementary in Gary, Indiana, followed by her high school years at Roosevelt High in Gary. Her family then relocated to Compton, CA. Mary finished her last year of high school at Centennial High (Compton,CA). She proudly served her community through her work at AT&T until her retirement. Mary commitment to service was evident in her personal life as well; she was deeply involved in her church, the City of Refuge (Greater Bethany), and served as the Compton PTA council president for many years, advocating tirelessly for the welfare of children. Mary is survived by a loving family including two daughters, two sons, four granddaughters, and numerous godsons, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind two brothers and two sisters. Mary was a guardian to countless other children whom she helped throughout the years, demonstrating her immense capacity for love and care. She was preceded in death by her parents, King David and Margaret (Stone) and five brothers: Charles, Luther, Thomas, James, and Floyd. Mary enjoyed spending quality time with her family and was a pillar in her community, contributing to various charities. Her legacy of kindness and dedication will be remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Feeding America and the Red Cross, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.
