The story of
Some people leave this world quietly. Mark Moses Mitchell was never one of those people. Mark Moses Mitchell, 60, of Rockwall, Texas passed away on August 5, 2026. He was born on December 15, 1965, in Toledo, Ohio to Waltraud K. Blum and Moses Henry Mitchell. To describe Mark simply would be impossible. He was loud. He was funny. He was outspoken. He was stubborn. He was generous. He was sometimes a little wild. He was always himself. And if you knew Mark, you knew that when he showed up, he showed up. Mark was the kind of person who could turn an ordinary gathering into an event. He was boisterous and larger than life, and he loved being around people. He could tell a story, make you laugh, get on your last nerve, and have you laughing again five minutes later. The best stories were the stories that probably should never be repeated in public. But behind all that personality was something even bigger: his heart. Mark would help anybody. It didn't matter whether you had known him for years or had just met him. He had a way of making people feel like family. If you needed help and Mark thought he could do something about it, he was likely to try. He gave freely and expected very little in return. That generosity was one of the things that made him so easy to love. And people LOVED Mark. As a young man, Mark was spirited and sometimes mischievous. He had plenty of personality and plenty of adventures, but eventually he found a different path. When he joined the United States Navy, his life began to take a new direction. The Navy gave Mark discipline, purpose, and an opportunity to serve something bigger than himself. He proudly became a Navy Veteran, and his military service was an important part of the man he grew into. Mark didn't stop there. He continued his education and earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Mark loved country music, and he loved taking road trips. There was something about getting in the car, turning up the music, hitting the road, and seeing where the day might take him that suited Mark perfectly. He enjoyed life in motion. He enjoyed people. He enjoyed a good time. And definitely a cold Coca-Cola somewhere along the way. Mark was preceded in death by his biological mother, Waltraud K. Blum; his father, Moses Henry Mitchell; his mother who raised him, Debora Mitchell; and his sister, Margaret Ferguson. He leaves behind his sister, Barbara Mitchell-Hoard (Randolph Roberts); his brothers, Jerome Mitchell (Ashia Mitchell) and Derek Stovall (Ruth Stovall); and his children, Mikiala Shavers, Mark Mitchell, Jr., Jonathan Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Aniya Mitchell, and Zachary Mitchell and his favorite niece, Terrica Odum. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, countless people who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on August 22, 2026 at New Caldonia Baptist Church, 301 E. Bourn Avenue, Rockwall, Texas 75087.
