Margaret Ellen Silvers passed peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of February 22, 2026, at her son’s home in Santa Clarita, CA. She was 92.
She was a follower of Jesus Christ so the completion of her journey on earth is a graduation to her everlasting home in glory with her Lord and Savior.
Margaret was born on December 26, 1933, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to the late Lillian (Adams) and Harry Bruce Wise. She was a member of the graduating class of 1952 at Daytona Beach Seabreeze High School where she was captain of the cheerleaders squad. She loved the beach and she maintained numerous close relationships with many of her high school classmates over the years.
She retired as a Flight Test Engineer with Rockwell at Edwards AFB in California where she knew and worked with all the test pilots, some of whom became astronauts. In her retirement, she transcribed many hours of conversations she had recorded with her daddy, Harry Bruce Wise. He shared many interesting insights and antidotes as he spoke in his Tennessean deep southern accent about some of his personal experiences and of the many innovations he witnessed from his birth in 1900 to his passing in 199(?).
Margaret was a loving and loved wife, mother, grammy, great-grammy, sister, aunt and friend. Her husband had served in the United States Marine Corp and for the rest of her life she proudly carried in her wallet the ID card that Camp Legeune military base in N.C. had issued identifying her as “wife of Sgt DeWitt.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, cousins, husband, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy.
She is survived by her son, Steven and his wife, Charity, who made her the proud grammy of 5 grandchildren, Nathanael, Sarah, Hannah, Esther and Ruth (and their spouses), the proud great-grammy of 7 granddaughters; and many nephews and nieces.
Her cremated remains will be buried alongside her late husband’s at Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona, Beach, FL. Plans for an informal celebration-of-life memorial are pending. Perhaps a beachside facility where our elders can share fond memories in climate-controlled comfort while our youngers can look forward to enjoying the sun, sand and sea on the beach (weather permitting).
