Lucille A Reifon, 99, passed away on May 25, 2026. Her last goal was to reach her 100th year, but sadly, it was not to be. She was born on October 31, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois and reveled in being a Halloween baby. She called herself “a witch”. Lu was born to Lithuanian parents, Casimir and Tekle Kakta, and was proud of her heritage. She spoke Lithuanian fluently. She attended St. Casmier’s Academy (high school) and after graduation worked as a secretary.
Lu married Walter (Wally) Reifon On May 2, 1949. On a vacation trip they fell in love with the Western United States and moved to Phoenix in 1956.
She loved to read and enjoyed entertaining. Lu also loved swimming in their backyard pool and taught her grandchildren and neighboring children to swim. She was a prolific seamstress and made clothes for herself and Wally and items to decorate their home. She was a devout Catholic her entire life.
Around 1966 Wally was transferred by his employer to Saudi Arabia for 2 years. This had a strong effect on Lu’s life. She was exposed to a new culture, met and befriended people from other countries and got to travel the region.
Lu was predeceased by her parents, Wally, her husband of 47 years, her sister Helen and her granddaughter Karen. She is remembered by her adopted daughter, Dianne(Glenn), grandson Cliff(Roberta), 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces, a nephew, extended family and friends.
Lu’s cremated remains will be interred with her husband at the National Cemetery of Arizona.
Since Wally was a WWII POW, she held the welfare of veterans close to her heart. If you wish to honor her memory with a gift, any veteran’s service organization would be a fitting tribute.
