The story of
Linda Mae Woodbury, 80, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on November 22, 2025, in Happy Valley, Oregon. Linda was born on July 29, 1945, in Litchfield, Illinois to William Virgil Allen and Grace Elizabeth Allen, followed by her younger brother, Frederick “Bill” Allen. At 9 years old, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, but Linda and Bill still got to spend summers back on their Grandma’s farm in Illinois. They helped with the chores, then played outside until dark. At a young age, Linda developed a love of animals, a love of reading, and a fondness for playing games. Linda attended Parkrose High School in NE Portland. At 13, she met her best friends for life: Sharon Beyl, Jean Jolin, Nancy Moragne, and Joyce Rollwage. These friendships endure to this day. They met for dinner once a month for decades. They also loved to travel together and would use proceeds from the annual “5 Old Ladies Garage Sale” they held to fund their trips, which included Boston, Chicago, Hawaii, Texas, Vancouver BC, and a cruise to the Panama Canal. Linda was able to visit 36 of our 50 states. Perhaps her most memorable trip, was when she met up with her daughter in the French Riviera where they explored Monaco, Nice, and Eze. In remembrance of that trip, her 80th birthday party was French-themed complete with a beret worn by every guest. After graduating high school in 1963, Linda attended Portland State University, then got a job working at Jantzen. In 1967, while playing pool at Nob Hill Bar & Grill in NW Portland, she met Robert “Woody” Woodbury. The two later married and had two daughters: Leslie and Tracy. Linda stayed home with their girls until 1972, when she took a job at Providence Health Systems in their Billing Department and eventually became a Supervisor. Linda retired from Providence in 2012 after almost 40 years of dedicated service. One of Linda’s biggest joys in life was time with her daughters. They loved to shop, dine out, and watch their favorite shows together. Linda was a voracious reader and an avid sports fan. She also loved fashion, game nights, trivia, and going to the casinos. For her 60th birthday, her daughters took her to Las Vegas to celebrate. Despite her sweet nature, Linda had a competitive streak. She was even in a fantasy football league for several years and took 1st place quite a few times. Linda was preceded in death by her parents William and Grace Allen, and her brother, Bill Allen. Linda is survived by her daughters, Leslie Woodbury and Tracy Hancock, son-in-law, Layne Hancock, sister (in-law), Sandra Allen, and her nieces, Robin Corak and Lisa Stevens. Linda’s smile, sense of humor, and the way she began every call to her daughters with “Hi, Sweetie.” will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, January 11. Those interested in attending may contact her daughter, Leslie, for details by email at tdlesliew@aol.com or by phone at 503.740.9759.
