The story of Leon
Early on Friday, March 31, 2023, Leon Robert Girouard (Bob), aged 81, left us to be with the Lord. He was born to Robert and Irene Girouard on October 11, 1941, in Cambridge, MA He was preceded in passing by his wife, Carol Ann; daughter, Deanna; his grandparents and his parents. He is survived by his loving son, David Wayne; step-daughters, Laura Holland-Clift and Julie Holland Dain; sisters, Ann Hogge (Buddy) of Wicomico, VA, Carol Winfield (Brian) of Virginia Beach, VA, Elizabeth Elenbaas of Cedar Springs, MI and Patricia Sillery (Lee) of Saluda, VA; as well as many cousins, nephews, and nieces. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1961 and then attended a trade school specializing in drafting in Norfolk, VA. Following his schooling he enlisted in the US Air Force and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. His service included two deployments to Vietnam during the conflict there. He was also stationed at a base overseas in Holland and in the states of North Dakota, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during his 20 years of service and retired while at his last station in Charleston, SC. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially those large family reunions. He loved fishing and boating, especially water skiing. He spent a lot of his retirement years watching NASCAR races and traveling with or to see his family. He enjoyed dinners with his friends at the local Longhorn Steakhouse and Elizabeth’s Pizza in the Stokesdale, NC area. Recently he relocated to Mesa, AZ to reside with his son where he enjoyed swimming in their pool. It was Leon’s desire to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at the same site as his wife’s. A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a later date.
