The story of
Koto Kannegawa, Cameron, was born on June 15th, 1933 in Yokohama, Japan and passed away in her home peacefully, surrounded by love ones on July 5th, 2025. Koto was born in Yokohama, Japan and resided there until she was 25 years old. Koto was the youngest of 8 children and the only girl. Her mother and father were hard workers raising their children the best they could growing up in a one-bedroom house. As Koto grew into her adolescence, she had vivid memories of the shattering horrifying attack/bombing that occurred in Japan in 1945 as a result of World War ll. It was at this time Koto no longer attended public education systems, but rather instantly became an adult and went to work in the fields with her mother to be a pillar in her family due to her brothers being sent to war in the years prior. Koto innately learned a high regard for survival and the strength and courage to be a hard worker. She carried this with her through her life. Koto met the love of her life at a bar/restaurant she was tending when a US Naval Sailor caught her eye. The two were drawn to each other and made it their mission to be together. Koto married William James Cameron in 1952 in Japan. They traveled to America in 1957 and in 1958 welcomed their first-born daughter, Kathleen Cameron, a few years later they had their son Edward Cameron in 1961 and their family was complete. They were married for 56 years. Koto preceded his death by 17 years, as he passed away in 2008 and preceded her daughter, Kathy’s death in 2019. Koto worked as a maintenance worker for The Pacific Northwest Bell Company for 36 years. She was valued and held in high regard. She retired in 1995, and spent her retirement traveling with her husband to one of her favorite destinations Hawaii and the beach. Koto had many other passions and joys in life such as being a devoted wife, mother, and caretaker. Her hobbies included camping, traveling, and bowling. One of her favorite past times was spending time at the coast with her family. She was a part of a competitive bowling league for many years and shared that passion with her husband and son. Koto is survived by her son, Edward Cameron, daughter in law, Patricia Cameron, her 9 grandchildren and 13 known greatgrandchildren. She lived a beautiful life and will remain a constant bright memory in those who are survived by her. Her loving, caring, compassionate nature and overwhelming amount of gratitude and kindness will be greatly missed and cherished by all those who loved her dearly. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. “Everything is changeable, everything appears and disappear, there is no blissful peace until one passes beyond the agony of life and death.” Japanese saying, Seishi ichinyo, meaning “Life and death are oneness”
