Kent Parker Brennecke, 89, passed away at home in Tigard, OR on June 5, 2026, from complications due to diabetes. Kent was born on September 10, 1936, to Earl and Bernice Brennecke in Quincy, IL. His father tragically passed away when Kent was 12, and Bernice took on the challenge of raising two active boys in Florence, AL. Some of Kent’s fondest memories as a child were of the summers he and his brother Jack spent on their grandparent's farm in Pittsfield, IL, while their mom worked in Florence and would come to pick them up at the end of the summer.
Kent was an accomplished athlete at Coffee High School, participating in football, basketball and baseball, and Kent said his mom rarely missed a game. Kent attended the University of Illinois, where he played on the football team and graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1959. He pledged Phi Gamma Delta in college and made many lifelong friends.
Kent enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1959 and did six months of active duty at Parris Island, SC and Camp Le Jeune, NC before joining a reserve helicopter unit based in California and Washington for the next five years.
Kent moved to Long Beach, CA in 1962 and started working for Standard Oil. While in California he met Donna Andresen, and they were married in March 1962. Kent transferred to the Standard Oil office in Seattle and continued to work for them until 1975. Kent and Donna had four children, Krista, Brad, Shari and Robert. They divorced in 1975.
Kent worked for Wright Lansdon company in Bellevue, WA as a Sales Representative from 1975 until 1984, which allowed him the opportunity to travel throughout Montana, Alaska, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Kent’s engaging personality and sense of humor made him a natural at sales. Kent joined Super Rent in 1984 as an officer manager and sales rep and finished his career there in 2001.
Kent found the love of his life in Sandy Mueller while playing co-ed softball. They were married September 18th,1976 in Bellevue, WA and shared 40 years together before she passed away in 2016 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Sandy and Kent were blessed to add two more wonderful children to the family, with Matthew in 1979 and Christopher in 1983.
Kent and Sandy sold the house in Bellevue in 2002 and spent the next 10 years as full-time RV-ers, with two three-month trips in Alaska, four stints as Campground Hosts at Zion National Park, further exploration of the Southwest, extensive time on the Oregon Coast, and wintering in Cottonwood, AZ. As Sandy’s health deteriorated, they spent more time in Arizona, eventually settling in Anthem, AZ.
In 2016, Kent and Sandy moved to Fort Collins, CO, in the same cul-de-sac as Matthew, so as to be able to be around more family as they aged. Matthew was a godsend to them as Sandy declined and passed away in 2016, and then as Kent’s health slowly declined over the next ten years. When Matthew was hired for a new job in Tigard OR, in June of 2025, they both packed up and moved. While this was a big move for an 88-year-old, Kent took it and stride and settled in nicely to the new surroundings.
Kent was a loving and supportive father and spent countless hours in all kinds of weather supporting the kids in soccer, baseball, basketball and whatever other activities they were engaged in. Kent’s super-power was laughter, and you could not be at a gathering with him and not be in stitches. Kent loved his trips to Walmart and Costco and usually was able to sneak some sweet treats into the cart.
Some of the fondest family memories were the yearly road trips with the pop-up trailer to Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and back to the family farm in Pittsfield, IL. In addition, there were numerous trips to Deception Pass, where the kids could be left to run wild.
Kent is preceded in death by his wife Sandy. He is survived by his children Krista Stager (William), Brad (Dan), Shari (Michael), Robert (Katharine), Matthew and Christopher (Ashlee), his grandchildren Lindsey, Brittany, Brandon, Ryan, Adam, Caden, Bennett, Miles and Austin, and his great-granddaughter Isabella. He is also survived by his beloved brother Jack Brennecke (Sherry), whose relationship he valued beyond measure.
Special thanks to his caregiver of the last several years, Rachel Happs, who took great care of Kent, kept him from buying too much food at Costco, and always could make him laugh.
Burial will take place in the Spring of 2027 at West Point Military Academy in New York, where he and Sandy will be reunited.
