The story of
Karen Michelle Lipscomb (née Smith), born October 4, 1959, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home in Phoenix, Arizona, on July 12, 2025. She is survived by her son, Adam Lipscomb, and her five cherished grandchildren. She also leaves behind her birth-daughter, Ciera Williams; her mother, Carolyn Shackelford; her siblings, Sherri Smith, Wendy Stewart, and Jeffrey Smith wife: Julie), and a large and loving extended family: nieces April Stewart, Shauna Ferguson (husband: Chandler, children: Aiden and Ryleigh), Brandi Smith (children: Emma and Maddyson), and Reagan Smith; nephews Adam Stewart, Jeremy Leedom (child: Bristol), Seth Smith, Nathaniel Smith, and Ethan Smith. Karen was warm, generous, and full of humor, with a vibrant laugh that will be missed beyond measure. She had a unique gift for making others feel special — whether through affectionate nicknames, her bright smile, or the comfort of her incredible cooking. Her holiday desserts, especially her treasured Christmas recipes, became traditions in their own right, lovingly anticipated each year. She had an unmistakable presence — whether dressed to the nines (which she loved) or in a favorite T-shirt, her confidence and spirit always shone through. Karen was adventurous, creative, and full of life. She worked hard in every role she took on, from office management to dynamiting the sides of mountains in mining operations — always with pride and resilience. A free spirit at heart, she took joy in the journey. Her VW bus, affectionately named The Ship of Fools, carried her — and many others — on unforgettable adventures. Karen was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Robin Leedom (née Smith), and her father, Richard Smith. She was a light in so many lives. Her kindness, creativity, and playful energy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Rest in peace, sweet Karen. We are grateful to God for the time we had with you — and for the promise of being reunited in heaven."
