The story of
Jon C. Peterson, 83, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026. He was born to James and Audrey Peterson in Torrence California, on March 24, 1943. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Peterson, their three children, Brook Peterson, Chloe St. Claire, and Brian Peterson, his sisters, Mary Talisman and Nancy Peterson, and six grandchildren. Jon spent his early years in Manhattan Beach and Altadena California. He graduated from LA State, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in English from the University of Oregon. He followed his passion for education, teaching at colleges and universities in Oregon and Hawaii. He also spent many years as a paralegal at Tonkin Torp LLC in Portland Oregon. Jon loved the ocean and mountains, and particularly enjoyed sailing, surfing, fishing, and skiing. He was a lifelong runner and loved sports. Everywhere he lived - whether in Eugene, Honolulu, or Tualatin - he volunteered in his community. He was a poet. Above all, he loved and cherished his family. A memorial service will be held at Tualatin Presbyterian Church on June 30, 2026 a 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy or Sierra Club.
