Johnny "Gumby" Simmons, 58, passed away on June 27, 2026, in Golden, Colorado. Born on July 27, 1967, in Denton, Texas, Johnny lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and love. Johnny grew up in Texas and Ohio before making Colorado his home in 2001. He cherished the majestic beauty of the mountains and found peace and inspiration in their splendor. His adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature were hallmarks of his life in Colorado. A devoted husband, Johnny is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Fran; his son Stephen; his grandson Bentley; and several others across the country who held him dear. He shared an unbreakable bond with those he loved. Johnny's enthusiasm for science fiction was a defining aspect of his life. A proud member of Starfleet—the largest Star Trek fan association in the world—for over 30 years, Johnny rose to the rank of Admiral and led the USS Stormbringer with pride for many years. His leadership extended beyond his ship as he served as a Regional Coordinator and later joined the Board as Chief of Operations under multiple administrations. Johnny's contributions to Starfleet left an indelible mark on the organization and its members. In addition to his involvement with Starfleet, Johnny was a founding member of the Colonial Fleet. As an Admiral aboard the Battlestar Stormbringer, he brought his characteristic dedication and leadership to this community as well. His passion for these organizations reflected not only his love for science fiction but also his ability to bring people together through shared interests. Johnny's warmth and generosity touched countless lives. He had a huge heart and an unwavering desire to help others succeed. Those who knew him will remember him as a steadfast friend, a compassionate leader, and a man who lived life with purpose and joy. As we bid farewell to Johnny "Gumby" Simmons, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. It is Fran’s fondest wish that he has reunited with their beloved Guinness across the Rainbow Bridge.
