In Loving Memory of John Wesley Polhamus Jr. June 21, 1940 – January 5, 2026 John Wesley Polhamus Jr., age 85, passed away on January 5, 2026. He will be remembered for his steady presence and love of family. Early Life John was born on June 21, 1940, in Syracuse, New York, to Gladys Marie (Schmidt) Polhamus and John Wesley Polhamus Sr. He was the eldest of eight children, growing up alongside his brothers Fred, Dan, and George, and his sisters Marie, Louise, Joan, and Debbie. Life & Home Throughout his life, John lived in New York, California, Arizona, and Oregon. He spent many years in Eagle Creek, Oregon, living with his mother before they relocated to Milwaukie, Oregon, where they were later joined by his sister Joan. After a brief time in Arizona, the family returned to Milwaukie. In his later years, John lived in Portland, Oregon, with his sisters Marie and Joan. Work & Interests John worked for much of his life in automotive, landscaping, and maintenance roles. He took pride in caring for his vehicles and was known for his practical skills and hands-on approach to work. He enjoyed Western movies and television shows, spending time outdoors, and being with family and friends. Family John is survived by his former wife, Nancy White of New York; his daughters, Jenny Mendez of Arizona and Mary Delaney of New York; his grandchildren, Naudia and Eliana Mendez, and Brianna Delaney; his sisters, Joan Brown of Portland, Oregon, and Debbie VanGaasbeek of Springville, California; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Final Resting Place At a future date, John’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside his parents at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Porterville, California.
