The story of
John Wesley McKinney, known to most as Wes, age 70, passed away on May 20, 2025, at Kindred Hospital in Seattle, WA. Wes was born on July 26, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. He was the beloved son of the late Tollison McKinney (affectionately known as Sunny or Papa) and the late Dorothy McKinney. Wes graduated from Franklin Pierce High School. He had a passion for restoring vehicles and attending car shows. Known for his many handyman skills, Wes was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He even moved to Virginia for several years to be closer to his grandchildren. Wes had countless wild and colorful stories from his youth—stories he often shared with a grin, saying he did those things “so others didn’t have to.” He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Trail, and son-in-law, Jason Trail, along with three cherished grandchildren: Lane, Vaughn, and Presley, who lovingly knew him as Papa. He is also survived by his brother Tem, and Tem’s children: Timmy, Casey, and Abby, as well as his grandchildren. His sister Cathy and her husband Joe survive him, along with their children: Brent, Kyle, and Brooklin, and their grandchildren. His sister Chrissy and her husband Tim also survive him, along with their children: Michael, Windy, and Andrea, and their grandchildren.
