The story of
John “Johnny” Villagrana August 7, 1961 – June 26, 2025 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John “Johnny” Villagrana, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Johnny departed from this world on June 26, 2025, in his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 63 years old. He is survived by his beloved children: Angela (Pat) Cavanaugh, Traci (Nick) Bates, Andrew Villagrana, Joe (Asmae) Villagrana, Emilio Villagrana, and Marcellino Vargas. He also leaves behind a proud legacy of 10 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his siblings: Hector, Joe, Encarnacion, Maria, Catalina (Cathy), and Maricela. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Inez Villagrana and Paula Vargas, his sister Elsa Bejarano, and his brother Armando Vargas, all of whom he loved deeply. He had a deep love for God and Jesus, instilling the importance of faith in his children. He found joy in simple moments such as fishing at the lake, sharing music, and cooking meals for his family and friends. Johnny loved animals, sports (especially basketball), singing, and working out. He had a curious mind and a generous heart. His hugs were legendary—strong, comforting, and full of love. Johnny was a man of many talents, countless quirks, and infinite love. He had the rare gift of making people around him feel like they were the most important person in the room. He was very charismatic, had a smile that would light up the room, and a laugh that was contagious. A celebration of life will be held in Johnny’s honor from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Sugar House Park - Fabian Lakeside Pavilion - 1330 E 2100 S, Salt Lake City, UT. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life lived and a man well-loved. Johnny will be forever missed, forever remembered, and forever cherished.
