John Stephen Hebing of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Akron OH passed away peacefully at the home he shared with his loving partner, Wendy Fretz, on September 30, 2024. He was 76.
Born July 11, 1948 in Cleveland OH, John was the son of the late Henry L. and Lillian (Mikes) Hebing.
John was a 1966 graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Cleveland OH. He attended John Carroll University, University Heights, OH before joining the Army in 1969, where he served his country as a military policeman in the 793rd MP Battalion stationed in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
During his high school and college years, and upon his honorable discharge from the military in 1971, John was employed at the Country Counter/Stop-n-Shop grocery store, eventually promoted up to store manager.
Moving to Scottsdale AZ in 1992, John worked for his brother’s software development company as CFO until 2001 when he began employment with AAA Landscape in Phoenix AZ as a Landscape Supervisor. Until his retirement in 2000, John took great pride in the properties he managed and received numerous awards for his hard work and dedication.
John enjoyed keeping the landscape he created at his residence beautiful and in pristine condition. He also enjoyed watching golf, football, and baseball, Saturday night cards with friends, and his yearly trips to Las Vegas.
In addition to Wendy, John is survived by his three daughters Jeannette Kovacevich, Akron, OH, Cynthia Rochford and her husband John of Fairlawn, OH, Beverly Brouse and her husband Andy of Akron, OH, his 7 grandchildren, Ashton and Gavin Nesbitt, Grace, Robbie and Lily Rochford, Lydia and Amelia Brouse, his sisters Mary Rooney, Fort Wayne, IN, Louise Murphy, New Britain, CT, and Loretta Kellough, Michigan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Henry “Hank” Hebing in 2023, and nephew James R. Murphy Jr. in 1999 while serving his country in the US Army.
John was laid to rest on October 25, 2024 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville OH with military honors. He will also be remembered with a Celebration of Life, and planting of a tree in his honor at the Sheraton Desert Oasis Villas in Scottsdale AZ, where he took great pride in keeping the resort beautiful.
John will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
