The story of
October 21, 1954 – July 27, 2025 John Arthur Wedemeyer III, a proud Army veteran and lifelong rock and roll enthusiast, passed away peacefully in Arizona on July 27, 2025. He was 70 years old. Born on October 21, 1954, in New York, John grew up in Ilion, NY, and graduated from Ilion High School. He cherished the many close friendships he formed during those years and remained connected with his high school friends throughout his life. After serving his country in the United States Army, John earned his degree in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, College Park. He later lived in California and Florida before settling in Arizona in 1993. John was the son of the late John A. Wedemeyer, Jr. and Irma M. Wedemeyer, who later remarried and became Irma Jaquish. He retired after many years of dedicated service as a bailiff for the City of Phoenix. A talented guitarist and passionate musician, John had a deep love for rock and roll and spent countless hours playing and listening to music. He also had a keen interest in history and enjoyed learning about the past. John is survived by his four children: daughters Leah Thomas, Melanie Lopata (Joe), Nicole Mather (Cody), and his son JJ Wedemeyer. His spirit lives on in his children, his music, and in the memories shared with those who knew and loved him. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Janet (Wedemeyer) Duhaime, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Wedemeyer. A portion of John's ashes will be interred at Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion, NY, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, where he will be laid to rest in his hometown. A second service and interment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at a later date, in honor of his military service. John will be remembered for his wit, love of music, and enduring friendships. He will be deeply missed.
