The story of
Jessica Elaine Metts, known affectionately as Jess, passed away unexpectedly April 2, 2023, in Portland, Oregon at the age of 33. Jessica was a free spirit who loved all things nature. She was an avid wildlife lover who enjoyed camping, fishing, horses and outdoor adventures. She was eager to share her joy and passion for nature with all who knew her. Jessica graduated from Willcox High School in 2008. She attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Jessica worked several years as a Park Ranger for the State of Arizona, including Karchner Caverns, Tonto National Monument and Alamo Lake. Her hobbies included photography, drawing wildlife, reading and playing the banjo. Jessica's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her mother, Cheri Metts of Pearce, AZ; her sisters, Jackie Murphy of Sierra Vista, AZ and Rachel Metts (Paula Wright) of Tucson, AZ; her grandparents Patrick and Ellie Dye of Monument, CO and John and Judy Metts of Artesia, NM. Aunts and uncles include Angela (Albert) Roper of Gunnison, CO; Eldon Dye of Palmer Lake, CO; Leslie Dye of Aurora, CO; Brad (Teresa) Metts and Scott (Tami) Metts of Colorado Springs, CO; Teri (Brian) Gilbert of Artesia, NM; and Kyla (Michael) Butts of Farmington, NM. Cousins include Josh Roper, Ryan (Lauryn) Roper, Corey Metts, Danny (Megan) Metts, Mollie Metts, Kevin Metts, Dylan Metts, Ryan (Noelle) Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Sean (Ashley) Butts and Lauren Butts. She is predeceased by her father, Steve Metts, and maternal grandmother Diann Dye. Jessica, may your beautiful mind Rest in Peace. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back; The rains fall soft upon your fields; And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
