Jimmy was the son of the late James T. Sorrell and Ellen B. Sorrell and the grandson of Grannie Butler and many other beloved family members. His early years were spent across several states-including Northern Kentucky, Florida, Michigan, West Virginia, and Ohio to name a few before he eventually made his home in Arizona.
Jimmy graduated from Gaylord High School, Gaylord, Michigan in 1974. He attended Michigan State College. He then pursued his PGA license in 1979. That's when Jimmy became assistant golf pro and first assistant pro at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston, West Virginia, Berrien Hills Country Club in St. Joseph, Michigan, Moundbuilders Country Club and Licking Springs Trout Club in Newark, Ohio.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Jamie Sorrell and James "Andy" Sorrell of Newark, Ohio; Jessica Sorrell (Luis) of Gastonia, North Carolina and Chelsea Sorrell of Denver, Colorado. Grandpa Jim also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy with love and joy. He is also survived by his sister, J.M. Sorrell of Northampton, Massachusetts. Also many beloved cousins and their families. Also, mothers of the children, Jane Mahan and Sheila Sorrell.
Jimmy's life was marked by movement and connection-touching many places and people along the way. Though his journey has ended, the memories he created will continue to bring joy to those who knew him. He was a very charismatic sports enthusiast/almanac with a competitive spirit which spanned from hockey, baseball, golf and even horse racing to name a few. Our dad surely did love his Cincinnati Bengals and Reds.
He would also like to mention his utmost gratitude and devotion to his cousins, Paul Sartori, of Crestview Hills, Kentucky and Judy and Michael Gallagher of Glendale, Arizona.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A private cremation has been arranged by thefamily. We will also have a celebration of our father's life at a later date. Please share any fond memories, stories or pictures of Jimmy.
