The story of
James lived a vibrant and multifaceted life filled with hard work, creativity, and connection. Raised in Ridgecrest, California, James attended James Monroe and Sherman E. Burroughs schools before continuing his education at Cerro Coso Community College. He began his career as a draftsman at Comarco Engineering right out of high school. Over the years, he explored many trades and roles, including working as a chef for the Elk's Lodge and for Dotty's gambling chain in Portland. His diverse career path reflected his adaptability and wide-ranging interests. James was known for his love of the outdoors and hands-on projects. He found joy in gardening, building nature trails, taking long walks through natural landscapes, and engaging with those around him. Whether playing pool or simply socializing, he had a gift for making people feel welcome and appreciated. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Crystal Alexander of Ocala, Florida; Paul Alexander of Ridgecrest; and Katie Alexander of Ridgecrest, California. He also leaves behind his sisters: Paula Hart of Ridgecrest; Debi Ray of Yuma, Arizona; and Brenda Alexander of Portland. James was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and Paul Alexander of Ridgecrest and sister Marie Gunn of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon. A celebration of life will be held in Ridgecrest, California in March 2026 to honor James’s memory among family and friends. Handsome, good-natured, intelligent, and generous—James left an impression wherever he went. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
