The story of
Beloved father, partner, grandfather, and friend James Clifford Jones, 74, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born to Willie James Jones and Anna Benjamin on January 13th, 1951, James had a green thumb and a golden heart. He built a life rooted in landscaping and service for the lord – a career he pursued not just with skill, but with pride and joy. Whether planting trees or working in the church and community outreach, James believed in growing beauty wherever he went. He was deeply committed to his community and had a way of showing up – whether you needed a hand, an honest opinion, or a good story. James is survived by his devoted life partner Gwen; his children, Danea, James, and Rachel; Five grandchildren – Jaden, Ziyada, Brycen, Mehki, Jaxx, and Jace – who kept him on his toes and made sure he never ran out of reasons to smile; and his 2 brothers; Dale Benjamin and Willie Jones. As well as a host of nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and an unmistakable laugh that could brighten any room (and did, often). A celebration of James’s life will be held at Agape Christian Center, where family and friends will gather to remember the man who could prune a rose bush with one hand and crack a joke with the other. He will be deeply missed – but we know he’s somewhere with endless sunshine, perfect soil, and probably rearranging the hedges.
