Early morning of Friday, June 6, 2025, Frances Mae Brubaker Cullen, age 93, passed away at home peacefully with loved ones around as the Lord called upon her.
Frances grew up in Mishawaka Indiana. She married John Cullen in Elkhart Indiana August 29, 1953, and when John enlisted to the Marine Corps, Frances became a devoted military wife always making sure John was prepared every day. These tasks included holding down the fort when John was overseas (3 times) moving the family (4 children, 2 dogs, 7 puppies) across the country and being the Rock that kept the family going. They moved around a lot but when John was stationed at Camp Pendleton, they decided to make their home in Oceanside CA. Frances worked full time for most of her life as a secretary in various positions retiring at age 74 from San Diego County Mental Health and CPS (child protective services). Her accomplishments included being a TIP (trauma intervention program) volunteer and finger printing children for ID cards. Frances enjoyed her computer, always eager to learn new technology, keeping in touch with many families and friends through emails. Frances' hobbies included her many dogs and cats; word search puzzles and she loved playing the slot machines.
Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Cullen, her father Dean and mother Helen (Guy) Brubaker a sister, Marian Stevens; brother, Guy Brubaker; a sister, Phyllis Myers.
Frances is survived by a brother Dean Brubaker; 4 children, Patricia Cullen Guevara, John Granger Cullen, Catherine Louise (Kitty) Topping; Charles Edward Cullen; 2 sons-in-law Michael Topping, Manuel Guevara, one daughter in-law Victoria Cullen, 6 grandchildren; Christa, Catherine, Richard, Andrew, Breahna, William; 12 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; she dearly loved all of her family and she will be missed by all.
It was Frances' decision to be cremated and laid to rest with her husband John at Miramar National Cemetary in San Diego CA.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at a later date.
