The story of
Eric Jason Kyle, born October 2, 1979 in Salem, Oregon, passed away on October 21, 2025. His life was a testament to resilience, complexity and a spirit that refused to be silenced, even in the face of extraordinary hardship. Eric’s early years were marked by instability. As a baby he and his older sister Charlotte lived with their mother and his father in a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville affectionately nicknamed The Boat. In 1982, when Eric was three, the family moved to Denver, Colorado—a place he cherished deeply and would always consider his true home. Yet at age five, Eric’s life changed forever when he entered the foster care system. His father left shortly after, and Eric never saw him again. With a poignant and uncanny twist of fate, Eric departed this world on the same date his father’s ongoing cold case was opened—an echo of unresolved history. Throughout his childhood, Eric lived in 24 different foster homes, enduring instability no child should ever know. At age eight, he was permanently separated from his mother, Carol, after she stopped visiting him during his placements. He would sit by the window waiting for her, holding on to hope. Although this separation left a deep ache, the connection between mother and son was never truly lost. When Eric turned 18, they reunited and remained in contact for the rest of her life. Eric visited Carol weekly while she lived in a nursing home due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis, and when she passed in 2012, Eric was faithfully by her side. The grief of losing her remained a quiet, steady ache within him. One constant in Eric’s heart was his sister, Charlotte. Though life’s circumstances pulled them apart for a time, they reunited in 2000 and spent the years that followed rebuilding a deep, loving bond. Charlotte became not just his sister, but his grounding place, his history, and his family. Eric’s adulthood was marked by both difficulty and perseverance. Stability—whether in housing, work, or community—was often out of reach. Even so, he carried within him a presence that left an unforgettable impression on those he met. He was charismatic, precocious, adventurous, stubborn and full of humor. His soul was kind and gentle, even when weighed down by pain and memory. Those who knew him well understood his unique blend of brilliance and struggle (#kylestyle). Eric fought hard and now, he has found rest. Those who love him take comfort in believing that Eric has reunited with his mother Carol at the Crossroads where neither is lonely anymore and where peace finally surrounds them both. Eric is survived by his sister Charlotte, who carries his memory with profound deep and enduring love, and by his partner and best friend Gary, who stood by him with unwavering presence and care for the past eight years. Eric is also remembered by many others who supported him, cared for him, and tried in every way they could to show him how deeply valued and loved he was. May Eric’s memory be an ongoing blessing and may his spirit find the eternal freedom and warmth he always deserved.
