The story of David
After a long and fulfilling life, David William Wostrel passed peacefully Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 in the comfort of his winter home in Mesa, AZ. He was surrounded until the very end by those he loved; his wife Sara; and his two children (Gregory and Candace). David and Sara had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on January 16, 2023. David was 80 years young. He was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 19th, 1942, and spent most of his adult life raising his family in Deephaven, MN. He was an all-around ‘I can fix it kind of man’; and an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, traveling, flying his Cessna, and spending time with his family. He was also known to have a special touch with helping, influencing, and guiding others. David served 3 years in the United States Army in Germany, exchanging love letters with Sara (then Blom) who he married after he was discharged honorably. After switching careers from the military to aviation, David and Sara raised their 2 children (Gregory and Candace) in the family home he purchased from Sara’s father, Clifton Blom. David retired in 2004. After retirement, Sara and David set off with their travel trailer spending winters visiting various parts of the US. Ultimately, they settled in Mesa, AZ which was their preferred snowbird destination. Their summers were reserved for Deephaven, MN where they enjoyed family and friends. David is predeceased by his father, Clinton Wostrel; mother, Marion Wilcox; and sister, Nancy Aulick. He is survived by his wife Sara (Blom) Wostrel; son, Gregory Wostrel (Valerie Tanner); daughter, Candace Wostrel-Glatch (Matt Glatch); grandson, Miigwan Tanner-Wostrel; brothers, Robert Wostrel (Barbara Wostrel) and William Wostrel (Linda Wostrel); and sister, Susan Fitzimons (Michael Fitzimons) and brother-in-law (Donald Aulick). He will be greatly missed by many friends and family that loved him dearly. There will be a celebration of life at the Wayzata Legion at later date.
