The story of
David Leo Worthington, 63, died peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by his family following unforeseen complications from surgery. David was born in Evanston, Illinois. He lived briefly in Dallas, Texas, but spent most of his life in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he formed lifelong friendships with so many people he dearly loved. He graduated from Greenhills High School in 1982 and remained full of Pioneer pride throughout his life. David proudly served in the United States Army and had a deep love for his country. His patriotism and his military service were important parts of who he was. Eventually, David’s deep love of the mountains drew him to Colorado, a place that brought him great joy and where he made his home in the later years of his life. A gifted athlete, David especially loved baseball and golf. He rarely missed an opportunity to watch the Little League World Series, and he was an accomplished golfer who loved the game throughout his life. David was also a devoted Grateful Dead fan, and their music was another great love throughout his life. But what people will remember most about David was David himself. He had an incredible sense of humor and quick wit and could make people laugh with ease. David had a warmth about him and a way of engaging with people that made them feel immediately welcomed and valued. If David knew you, he cared about you. He wanted to know your story, what was happening in your life, and what mattered to you. He carried tremendous gratitude for the many people who helped, encouraged, and cared for him throughout his life. David’s life was not always easy, but through God’s grace, he showed remarkable resilience. His faith sustained him through difficult times. David loved and trusted God, and through the ups and downs of his life, he returned again and again to the words he believed deeply: “God has a plan for me.” David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edie and Pete Worthington, and his brothers, Steve and Bruce. He is survived by his brother, Dorsey Worthington (Dee); his sister, Cathy Gerrish (Jamie); his nieces, Alex Gerrish, Molly Smith (Jake), and Sarah Shupe (Eric); and his loving cousins, extended family, and many cherished friends. And no remembrance of David would be complete without mentioning his beloved dog, Harley, his faithful companion and a tremendous source of love and joy. We take comfort in the words David himself believed so deeply: “God has a plan for me.” And we trust that David is now at peace in the hands of the God he loved. We give heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and Palliative Care team at Anschutz Hospital in Denver, Colorado, who cared for David with such compassion and love until the very end, even though they never had the opportunity to truly know the man we knew and loved. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on October 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church, 965 Forrest Avenue, Glendale, Ohio.
