The story of
David Ray Coleman, age 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 17, 2025, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Washington, DC on November 18, 1943, to Raymond Eugene Coleman and Mildred Luella (Wilke) Coleman. Dave's father was a career Navy man, and with each new assignment the family was constantly relocating. Throughout his growing up years, Dave lived in 8 states, 26 different residences, attended 22 schools, including 3 different high schools and 2 colleges. These experiences shaped Dave's personality into a friendly, outgoing, good natured, positive thinker, always ready to lend a hand and a smile. Dave's character won the heart of his wife of 57 years, Jeannie (King) Coleman. They met at the University of Oklahoma (OU) on a blind date, and later married on July 8, 1967. In July of 1966, at the height of the Vietnam war, Dave enlisted in the US Navy. During his 4 years of service, Dave was named Honor Man in his Great Lakes U.S. Naval Training class, and Sailor of the Quarter aboard the USS Wasp-CVS18 for his outstanding service. Dave was a patriot, both as a serviceman and as a citizen. Following his tour of duty, Dave returned to OU with only 9 credits remaining and earned his degree in marketing and finance. In 1971 Dave began his successful business career, working in sales and marketing management for both large and small corporations. At one point Dave enjoyed being co-owner of a commercial roofing distributorship in Orange County, CA. He had a strong work ethic and always placed the customers' needs as his highest priority. In 1975 the couple welcomed their daughter, Sarah Ann, into their growing family as well as their son, Andrew David, in 1977. The family lived in Chicago, IL, Fort Wayne, IN and Toledo, OH before settling in Santa Ana, CA for 25 years. Upon Dave's retirement, the couple moved to Arvada, CO in order to be interactive grandparents in their grandchildren's lives. Dave had multifaceted interests which included sports (an avid Boomer Sooner fan), golf, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, wood carving, wood working, traveling, gardening, vintage cars, and just spending hours tinkering in his home work shop. He was Co-Scoutmaster in Andrew's Boy Scout Troop, and Elder and Co-Chair of the Building Committee at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, CA. Dave led by serving. He was a loyal friend, a doting grandfather, a supportive father, a devoted, loving husband, and a strong provider. He had a deep faith in a just and loving God, strengthened by prayer and reading his Bible daily. Dave's was a life well lived. Dave loved and was loved. He will be deeply missed by all who shared his life. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, daughter, Sarah Sidwell (Josh), son, Andrew (Brigitte), brother, Gary (Murriel), sister Jan, grandchildren Sophia, Ayden, and Col Sidwell and Sven Coleman, in addition to a myriad of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his cousin Kent Crawford, and his stillborn grandson Owen Noah Sidwell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Dave on Saturday, November 22 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, 17707 W 16th Ave, Golden, CO with a reception following. The service will be recorded and shared virtually on Sunday, December 7th, with details to be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors Family Support or Trisomy 18 Foundation.
