Christopher Ross (Sox) Thompson, 51, of Tucson, Arizona passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 AT TMC Hospice after a battle with cancer lasting many years. He was surrounded by family, friends and pilot buddies telling war stories. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on September 14th at 1PM.

Christopher was born in Bangkok, Thailand on April 30, 1974. He attended L.D.Bell High School in Hurst, Texas and the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, graduating in 1996. He then completed Air Force Pilot Training and was assigned as an A-10 attack pilot, performing that duty for many years on active duty and reserves including tours in Korea and Afghanistan. His flying career also included several years as a pilot for Delta Airlines. He was also an amateur musician and self-published his own album of original music.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Sunny. He is survived by his parents, Tom and Utai Thompson, his sister, Diane, his daughter, Carly, and his son, Daniel.
Chris was known for his flying professionalism, his laid-back attitude, perseverance in the face of adversity, great sense of humor and dedication to his children. He lost his wife ten years previously and raised their two children as a single Dad while battling disease.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
