Christina Beatrice Lewis-Thomas, born September 6, 1943, in Milford, Massachusetts, passed away May 11, 2024. She was the cherished only child of the late Raymond L Chismn, a machine mechanic, and the late Johnnie Lee Chismn, a dedicated housekeeper and cook.
As a young adult, Christina embarked on a journey of knowledge in Florida, where she attended Jackson State University. There she formed friendships and lifelong bonds that continued unto her death. She welcomed her daughters, Lagreta J. Little and Stacey Adair, into the world with love and dedication.
In the bustling corridors of the US post office in Washington DC, Christina met and married her first husband, the late Russell Lewis, Jr., with whom she built a life in Los Angeles, California, eventually making Carson their home. Christina nicknamed “sleepy” served 33 years at the US Post Office before retiring in 19xx.
Devoted to her faith, Christina found solace and community in the pews of First AME Church in Los Angeles, alongside her beloved second husband, Earl Thomas. Her spiritual journey continued to blossom with the guidance of her stepdaughter, Virlicia Thomas upon re-locating to Gilbert, AZ in 2023.
Christina's thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. She pursued various interests, from sewing and patternmaking to sign language studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Motivated by her grandson David's autism diagnosis, she became an advocate for children with autism, sharing her insights with others.
Active and vibrant, Christina embraced life with zest. She graced senior modeling events with her own creations, relishing her walks with friends and Zumba sessions at the local mall. Her heart overflowed with love, she helped in the care of her youngest grandchildren, Jasmine and David, whom she cared for deeply. She later became a nurturing presence in the lives of Hannah and Ezra Gideon who loved her tremendously.
Christina found joy in the simple pleasures of shopping and conversation, weaving connections with strangers and cherished friends alike. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she sewed clothes and bags for loved ones and frequented her beloved "traps" - Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. Later in life dancing became her true passion which included Belly, Line, Ball Room, and Stepping.
Christina Beatrice Lewis-Thomas is survived by her devoted husband of 37yrs, Earl Thomas, her loving daughters, Lagreta J. Little (Darryl) and Stacey Adair (John), step-children (Zerolynn, Darren, Cassandra, Virlicia & Diron), six grandchildren: Michael, Britney, Amber, Briana, Jasmine and David, four great grandchildren: Shamiya, Madison, Greyson and Hudson, and a host of family and friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and kindness.
