Charlene Laraine Galvin, beloved mother, grandmother, caregiver, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on March 16, 2026. She was born Charlene Ruffin on March 24, 1940, in New York, New York. She grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts, and moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1992.
Charlene lived a life defined by compassion, resilience, and devotion to others. She dedicated her professional life to caring for people who needed it most, spending her career working with the mentally ill and the elderly. Her work was not simply a career but a calling. She approached every person she cared for with patience, dignity, and kindness.
In a testament to her determination and lifelong belief in personal growth, Charlene returned to school and graduated from college in her 40s. She believed strongly that it is never too late to pursue knowledge or follow your purpose, and she carried that belief throughout her life.
To those who knew her personally, Charlene was the heart of her family. She was incredibly loving, generous, and endlessly caring. She had a natural ability to make people feel safe, welcomed, and valued. Her generosity knew no limits, and she consistently went above and beyond to care for, protect, and support those she loved. Her warmth extended far beyond her immediate family. Many people lovingly called her “Nana,” including numerous honorary grandchildren whose lives she touched with the same love and care she gave her own family.
Charlene was preceded in death by her grandmother, Adeline J. Kellough; her parents, Ardell Ruffin and Ralph Ruffin; her son, Albert Currier Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Perrault.
She is survived by her brother, R. Nelson Ruffin, and his wife, Nancy, and her nephew, Jason Ruffin.
She is also survived by her children, Stephen Perrault; Jacqueline Ryan and her husband, James Ryan; Denice Perrault; and Tracy Franco (Currier) and her fiancé, Matthew Cahill, and stepdaughters, Sheryl Evans and Bunny DeLaney.
Charlene was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jonathan Ferry, Tiffany Ryan, Jason Perrault, Ashley Ryan, Nicole Schill, Alexandra Schwartzman, Domenic Franco, Nicholas Franco, and Salvatore Franco. She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Charlene’s life was one of service, love, and unwavering care for others. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, generosity, and family that will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Central Christian Church, Queen Creek Campus, located at 22505 E. Ocotillo Rd., Queen Creek, AZ 85142.
Charlene will be laid to rest in Lynn, Massachusetts, in September. Additional details will be shared at a later date.
