Carol Yvonne Luoma, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at the age of 82, with the love of her life and devoted husband, Jack Luoma, by her side. Her death was from complications caused by a stroke she suffered on January 2, 2025. Carol was a deeply loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Mothers and grandmothers hold a special place in the hearts of their families, loving in ways that are often beyond words. Carol’s love, kindness, and unwavering devotion touched all who knew her, and she will be missed more than she could ever have imagined. Carol was born in Leadville, Colorado, where she attended school. She was a cheerleader in high school and graduated from Leadville High School in 1962. Throughout her life Carol was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority chapters in Leadville, Denver, and Maui, Hawaii, forming many lifelong friendships. Carol married Dick Martelli of Leadville and they moved to San Francisco where Dick was stationed while in the Army. On April 8, 1964, they welcomed their daughter, Christine April Martelli, into the world. With Dick's Army obligation over, they returned to Leadville. Dick went to work for the post office and Carol started her career in banking at the Commercial Bank. One of her fondest memories at CBL was when a lady who worked at the bank shared the exciting news with her co-workers that her son had just been hired by NBC as a reporter in California. It turned out that her son was Tom Brohaw, long time NBC anchor and author of "The Greatest Generation". Dick was then transfered to the Denver post office and they moved moved to Denver where Carol continued her career in banking and Chris started school. Following her separation and divorce, Carol rekindled a relationship with Jack Luoma, whom she had gone through school with in Leadville, sking together and occasionally dating. A new chapter in her life began. Carol and Jack were married in Las Vegas on December 22, 1974, and returned to Leadville beginning a partnership filled with love, adventure, and travel. Together they enjoyed exploring new places and creating lifelong memories. Carol again worked at Commercial Bank of Leadville. Some time later, she went to work at the Climax Mine, starting in the warehouse before moving to the Accounting Department. In 1982, Carol and Jack embarked on one of their greatest adventures when they purchased the Golden Burro Café, one of the most well-known and beloved restaurants in the Colorado mountains. After ten successful years, they sold the restaurant and moved to Maui, where they embraced island life and delighted in sharing it with family and friends who came to visit. After four years in Maui, the adventure came full circle, and Carol and Jack once again became owners of the Golden Burro. Following seven years of hard work restoring and strengthening the restaurant’s reputation, they retired to Littleton, Colorado, where they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Carol’s memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Jack Luoma; her daughter, Christine Olsgard (Martelli); her brother, Jack Brink; her grandson, Garrick (Jamie) Olsgard; her great-grandson, Kyas Olsgard; and her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Iona Brink; her grandparents, Viola and Elmer Pausten; her sister, Dorothy (Art) Dague; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and relatives. A service honoring Carol’s life will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Service details are pending and will be announced at a later date. Carol’s life was marked by love, resilience, adventure, and devotion to family. Her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
