Carl David Gable January 30, 1942 ~ June 11, 2026 Dave Gable was once described by his friend, Herschel Rosser, as having “the gift of seeing the sublime in the ridiculous. Unfortunately, he also has the problem of seeing the ridiculous in the sublime.” Born on a Pennsylvania Dutch potato farm to Carl and Mary Gable, with three older sisters, Audrey, Josephine (Cuddie), and Esther. Dave went to what is now the University of Valley Forge, then completed his Bachelor of Divinity at Faith Theological Seminary in 1966 and his Doctor of Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary in 1986. He and Millie met, fell in love, and married at college. They had three daughters: Jennifer, husband Chris Karr and daughter Claire; Janice, husband Matthew Lea, son Nicholas and daughter Gabriella; and Jill, husband Chris Ahearn, daughter Audrey, and son Charlie. Dave was a communicator, mostly communicating the truth of God as a career-long Assemblies of God (A/G) minister. He served as Youth Pastor from 1968 to 1971 and then as Lead Pastor from 1979 to 1993 at Northpark Community Church in Fresno. In the 70s, he directed the National Chi Alpha Campus Ministries from AG Headquarters in Springfield, MO. From 1993 to 2007, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of the SoCal AG, directing church planting and Men’s Ministries, and was the pastor/missionary liaison. Dave introduced new ways of church planting to the Assemblies of God and new concepts of Christian marriage, serving over 40 years along with Mille with AG Marriage Encounter leading their own message, “Journey to Unity”, all over the USA and several other countries. As a lover of creation, he served 40 years as the AG representative on the board of A Christian Ministry in the National Parks, including Interim Resident Minister assignments in The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks. He backpacked two portions of the Appalachian Trail. His writings include Luke and Life, a two-volume work of Luke; Life Takes ~ Books 1-4, in which the sublime and the ridiculous abound; and, in his final months, Live Life Prepare for Death. Though living in California for decades, Dave pays tribute to what he drew from his Pennsylvania Dutch heritage by having his earthly remains interred in a Felton graveyard, under another of the granite testimonies of family who lived and died there. The inscription on it, “Journey to Unity”, serves well his lifetime theme of relationship.
