The story of
Beverly Ann Schwab (Woodhead), age 88, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Orting , Washington. Beverly was born in Lewiston, Maine, the youngest of five children to Mary Francis and Joseph Woodhead. From an early age, she stood out for her energy, confidence, and independence. In high school she was a majorette and earned extra money teaching younger children—early signs of a lifelong love of movement, leadership, and people. She attended Boston University, majoring in Physical Education, and began her career at a girls’ boarding school in Rhode Island. There, Beverly learned to ski—an activity that would shape the rest of her life—and even led a group of students on a bicycle tour across Europe. That trip changed everything. She met an American principal working for the Department of Defense who offered her a job overseas. After completing her contract in Rhode Island, Beverly headed to Germany in 1962. As a traveling physical education teacher throughout Germany and Italy, Beverly immersed herself in skiing, culture, and languages. While in Vicenza, Italy, she met Frederic Anthony “Rick” Schwab. Rick was not a skier when they met, and Beverly made it clear: if he wanted to spend time with her, he’d need to learn—because that’s where she spent all her free time. They were married in 1966. Beverly and Rick eventually returned to the United States, settling first in Missouri while Rick completed his engineering degree, then moving to Casper, Wyoming, where Rick began working for Texaco. They ultimately found their forever home in Anacortes, Washington, where they raised their four children. The Schwab family was deeply involved at St. Mary’s Church, where Beverly was known for coordinating social events with style, precision, and flair. That talent naturally evolved into a career as a group travel agent and cruise specialist—one she excelled at so thoroughly that she famously made Julie McCoy look like an amateur. An avid skier, passionate traveler, and incredible mother, Beverly left an impression on everyone she met. She was no-nonsense, generous, captivating, and deeply loved by her family and friends. She lived by the belief that dying is simply part of living—and she truly lived life to the fullest. Someone once joked that her headstone should read, “Suck it up,” a phrase that perfectly captured her grit, humor, and resilience. Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederic Anthony Schwab, who passed in 1993. She is survived by her children: Frederic Schwab of Anacortes, Washington; David Schwab and (Heather Schwab) of Newburyport, Massachusetts; Erica Schwab and (Jon Noyes) of Orting, Washington; and Andrew Schwab and (Kim Schwab) of Snoqualmie Pass, Washington. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Samantha Schaffer, Gunnar Noyes, Carly Schwab, Laney Schwab, Colby Schwab, and Brielle Schwab. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 3, 2026, in Anacortes, Washington. Beverly Ann Schwab’s legacy of strength, adventure, generosity, and love will continue through all who were lucky enough to know her.
